CM Tiwari stresses on girl child on Uttaranchal's 6th Anniversary

Dehradun, Nov 9 (UNI) The people of Uttaranchal celebrated their state's 6th Anniversary with great enthusiasm even as Chief Minister ND Tiwari announced new initiatives for the downtrodden and stressed on the importance of educating the girl child.

The Cheif Minister of the 27th state of the Republic of India, which came into existance in 2000, announced a grant of Rs 25,000 for five years to parents whose second child is a girl.

Mr Tiwari, on the occasion, launched the "Himalayi Prayas-Atulniya Vikas" a documentation on the achievement of the ruling Congress Government, and announced that Rs 25,000 would be provided to all girl students who pass their intermediate examinations under the "Vidhyadhan" Program.

A grant of Rs 3000 would also be provided for girl students who take admission in Class 9 under the "Tejasvi" Program. Mr Tiwari further announced providing Health Cards to BPL (below poverty line) families for free medical facilities as well as a Universal Health Insurance Scheme.

He called on the people of Uttaranchal to contribute in state development saying it would ultimately result in the development of the country.

The celebrations began with Chief Minister ND Tiwari paying his tribute to martyrs at the Martyrs Memorial at Collectorate.

The Governor of the State Sudarshan Agarwal reviewed the parade at Police Line in the presence of the Chief Minister.

Four DIGs, one ADG, a DSP and two constables of the Uttaranchal Police were felicitated with the President Police Medal for their commendable service. A Dare Devil team captivated audiences at Police Line with their stunts performed on motorcycles.

The celebration was also marked with the inauguration of Garhwal Mahotsavs at Pauri and Nainital Mahotsav at Naintal.
