Chandigarh, Bangladesh teams win in Nehru hockey
New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) Government Model High School, Chandigarh and Bangladesh Institution of Sports won their super league matches in contrasting styles in the 35th Nehru Junior hockey Tournament here today.
Pitted against Birsa Munda Vidyapitha, Rourkela, Chandigarh boys struck four second half goals to sink their rivals 5-1.
Preetinder Singh opened the account for the winners in the 26th minute and after breather, Simrandeep Singh buttressed the tally before Preetinder struck again to complete his brace.
Birsa Munda boys reduced the margin through Innocent Kullu but Deepak Kumar's brace sealed the game firmly in favour of the Chandigarh side.
Bangladesh Institution of Sports, however, had to toil hard to get the better of St Ignatius High School, Gumla 2-1. After Taposh Barman fetched the lead for the Bangla team, the Gumla side equalised in the second half through Jagannath but Taposh scored his second goal of the match to clinch the issue.
The other match of the day saw Guru Harkrishan Public School, Punjabi Bagh being held to a 1-1 draw by Government Model Senior Secondary School, Ladowali, Jalandhar.
The local favourites took lead in the 33rd minute when Satish Kumar sounded the board but the Jalandhar boys equalised through Hardeep Singh to force a draw.
