Centre sanctions Rs 392 crore for Munger rail-cum-road bridge
New Delhi, Nov 09 (UNI) The Centre today gave its approval for providing project specific funds to the tune of RS 392 crore for the construction of rail-cum-road bridge over the river Ganga at Munger in Bihar.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram told mediapersons after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, that the amount would be provided in the 11th Plan provisions of Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways towards the road share of Munger rail-cum-road bridge project.
But the amount would be released directly by Planning Comission to the Ministry of Railways as per the yearly requirement. Since major work of bridge is to be executed by the Railways Ministry, the CCEA has also given its approval for nominating Ministry of Railways as the nodal ministry for implementation of the project.
The project is scheduled to be completed during 2009-10, Mr Chidambaram said.
