Cabinet approves Central Univ status for CIEFL, Hyderabad

New Delhi, Nov 9 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave its approval to move certain amendments to the Central Institute of English and Foreign Language University Bill, 2006 to confer Central University status on the institute of Hyderabad.

Briefing newspersons here, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the bill wasintroduced in the Rajya Sabha in March this year and referred to the department related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development for examination and report. The committee presented its 177th report to Rajya Sabha on August 25 this year, which was also laid on the table of Lok Sabha the same day wherein it had suggested amendments to certain clauses of the bill before it was passed.

Mr Chidambaram said this decision was taken to meet the recommendations of the department related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development, he added.
