BJP demands right to information on Singur land acquisition issue
Kolkata, Nov 09 (UNI) The BJP in West Bengal today asked the West Bengal government to provide the party with "total information" regarding the government policy on handing over of land to Tata Motors for its proposed small car unit at Singur in Hooghly district.
Submitting a formal request in government Stamp Paper to the Public Information Officer of the state Commerce and Industries department today, BJP State General Secretary Rahul Sinha categorically wanted to know "how much acres of fertile land at Singur have already been acquired by the West Bengal goverrnment from the local farmers for the proposed plant" and the entire "terms and condition of the agreement between the state government and the Tata Motors" in this regard.
Claiming that both the information had been sought under the Right to Information Act of 2005, Mr Sinha hoped that the state government would provide him the entire information within the next 30 days.
Incidentally, the BJP's demand is likely to add further complications to the issue which had already drawn the attention of the national media in the wake of continuous opposition to the deal by the All India Trinamool Congress under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
