BJP activists go berserk at railway station, 20 policemen wounded

Moradabad, Nov 9 (UNI) About 50 people, including 20 policemen, were wounded, when BJP activists resorted to stone-pelting at the railway station here late last night.

BJP workers got agitated on the recovery of ballot papers and voting seals from the Moradabad mayoral poll counting centre at Mandi Samiti premises.

So far, police have arrested 18 party leaders and a case had been registered against 900 persons in this regard.

In wake of the tension, PAC and Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed in the area.

BJP president Rajnath Singh and party's Uttar Pradesh unit in charge Keshri Nath Tripathi are reaching Moradabad from New Delhi, while Congress high command and state leadership have been apprised of the prevailing situation.

SSP Sunit Pandey said BJP activists in large numbers had raided the railway station and vandalised the G M Special train by pelting stones.

The train driver and several passengers were injured in the incident. The party activists also fought with the cops resulting in injuries to both sides, including 20 policemen.

BJP mayoral candidate Beena Agarwal had lost the seat by a thin margin of 1,718 votes to the ruling Samajwadi Party nominee.
