Silk expo of tribal creations in Hyd

Hyderabad, Nov 8 (UNI) The Central Silk Board showcased exotic and exclusive Vanya silk products of the tribals from various parts of the country, in an exhibition here today.

Actress Sridevi inaugurated the five-day Vanya Silk Exhibition-cum-buyer-seller meet. The collection included Tasar, Muga and Eri in natural colours, a Board release said.

The exhibition was organised with a social commitment to benefit the Vanya silk rearers, reelers, spinners and weavers-- the tribals from central, eastern and north-eastern parts of the country.

"Vanya silk culture is neither detrimental to the food plants available in the forests nor disturbing forest ecology. When Vanya silkworms are reared on food plants, they feed on the leaves and the litter spreads in and around the plant, resulting in effective nutrient cycling", the release added.
