Shekhawat inaugurates World Cup stadium in Guyana
Georgetown, Guyana, Nov 8 (UNI) Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the Providence Cricket Stadium, one of the venues for next year's World Cup, here today.
''It is a great honour and privilege for me to be here in this beautiful edifice on the monumentous occasion of dedication of the Providence Cricket Stadium. This beautifully constructed stadium is not just a magnificient structure of brick and mortar, it symbolises and visibly demonstrates the strong bonds of deep friendship between the people of two countries,'' Mr Shekhawat said in his speech.
''The stadium is also an example of South-South cooperation to which India has a historic commitment,'' he added.
Observing that cricket is not a mere game both in the Caribbean and back home in India, the Vice President said, ''Our partnership in the Providence Cricket Stadium is therefore an appropriate reflection of our common passion for the game of cricket.'' The new stadium was constructed with concessional credit of 19 million dollar from India.
