Purported "Al Qaeda" letter warns of bomb threat to airports
Chennai, Nov 8 (UNI) Security measures were today tightened at all the airports, especially in Tamil Nadu, following a letter claiming to be from 'Al Qaeda' activists received at Tiruchirapalli airport, threatening bomb explosions.
Police sources told UNI here that the letter written in the name of ''Allah'' was found at the Indian Airlines counter at Tiruchirapalli airport by an employee of the Airports Authority of India (AAI). He handed over the letter to the airport manager.
The letter, witten in English said that bombs had been planted in Tiruchirapalli, Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai airports and would explode at anytime.
Following this, the AAI informed the matter to the police and other security agencies. Security was beefed up in all the airports, especialy in Tamil Nadu.
A large police force with bomb detection squad led by IG Intelligence Mr Subramaniam, went round Chennai airport- both domestic and international, and fortified the security there.
