Pallam Raju Launches Software on Defence Land Records
New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) The Directorate General of Defence Estates has taken a revolutionary step by computerising the land records of vast tracts of land in the country -- all owned by the Defence Ministry -- measuring about 1.7 million acres.
Out of the total land holdings, the records of cantonment land measuring 200,000 acres and military land of about 1.5 million acres will henceforth be readily available in the Defence Estates offices -- all thanks to the efforts of the experts in the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Chennai.
The relevant software 'Raksha Bhoomi' was launched by Minister of State for Defence MM Pallam Raju here today.
On the occasion, the Minister complimented the efforts of the staff of NIC and Directorate General - Defence Estates for their consistent efforts in digitising Defence land records -- a highly specialised and complex task keeping in view the vast land holdings that the Defence organisations hold throughout the country.
Minister Pallam Raju directed the Defence Estates officials to make optimum use of the 'Raksha Bhoomi' software in order to protect the precious Defence land and prevent encroachments. Instances of encroachment on Defence lands have come to the notice of the Defence Ministry and the software will facilitate solving these cases, the Minister observed.
Further, the Minister informed that the entire digitisation of the land records will be done in two phases -- at a total cost of Rs 2.52 crore.
The first phase was completed with the launching of today's software, an official spokesperson here said.
