Mizoram govt to export bamboo to Bangladesh
Aizawl, Nov 8: The Mizoram government will export bamboo consignments to Bangladesh by next month following an agreement with Nitol Paper&Pulp Mill of Dhaka.
State industry department Joint Director G Malsawmdawngliana would supply about one lakh metric tonnes of bamboo to the paper mill every year.
''The first consignment of about 10,000 metric tonnes of bamboo will be despatched in first week of December as soon as we receive the letter of credit from the company,'' Mr Malsawmdawngliana said.
The paper mill would purchase raw bamboo at US per metric tonne in the first year and it would increase to 400 metric tonnes from the next year, he stated.
The agreement is the fulfilment of an MoU between the company and the state government's Mizoram Intodelh (self-sufficiency) Project (MIP) Marketing Board signed last year.
The state government has agreed to transport the bamboo up to Sutarkandi near Karimganj town in Asom.
