Maoists participation in govt to help smooth transition: Left
New Delhi, Nov 8 (UNI) The Left parties today welcomed the Nepal Maoists' decision to participate in mainstream politics and said that it would go a long way in peaceful transition to a real republican state.
The leaders of the CPI, CPI(M) and Forward Bloc said the decision would further boost Indo-Nepal relations and strengthen the progressive and left forces all over the world including India.
The Nepalese Government and the Maoists have reached a historic agreement last night to end the decade-old conflict and restore lasting peace through the 15-point agreement with both the sides agreeing to form an interim government by December 1.
Talking to UNI, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan said it was a welcome development that the Maoists had decided to join mainstream politics, which would have a soothing impact on the extremist elements everywhere.
" The joining of mainstream political life and participatory democracy will force the so-called Maoists elements in India and other countries of the subcontinent to review other political tactics and beliefs in individual terrorism," said Mr Bardhan.
CPI national Secretary Shamim Faizi said the development had also generated hope for better Indo- Nepal relations and a more cohesive approach for the Nepalese interim government that would include the Maoists themselves.
Mr Faizi, the editor of party Weekly New Age, said the move would bring peace and stability in the region and the whole of South Asia.
CPI( M) senior leader Mohammad Salim said the Maoists decision would create a situation where people of Nepal would have a "greater say" in the matters of administration and development.
" The improved situation in Nepal will also be helpful in improving Indo-Nepal ties and usher in a new era of peace, progress and stability in whole of South Asia," Mr Salim, the party Deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, said.
Forward Bloc national secretary G Devrajan said it was a matter of great satisfaction that the Maoists in Nepal had realised the potential of parliamentary democracy.
Their participation in the democratic process would give an impetus to mass movements and struggles the world over, he added.
