Imrana case: father-in-law petitions HC
Allahabad, Nov 8: The Imrana rape case of Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh has now come before the Allahabad High Court for adjudication with the victim's father-n-law filing an appeal against his conviction by the lower court.
Imrana's father-in-law Mohd Ali -- held guilty of raping his daughter-in-law by the Muzaffarnagar sessions court -- has filed a criminal appeal in the Hight Court against his conviction under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 376.
Ali's appeal came up for hearing in the court of Justice M K Mithal, but it was adjourned on the victim's counsel's request.
The court has fixed November 10 to hear the case.
Ali was convicted by the lower court on October 19 last under IPC section 376 and 506 and sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment, besides Rs 10,000 fine.
In the High Court, he has pleaded against his conviction saying there was a delay in lodging FIR against him and even the medical report did not corroborate the prosecution story. Besides, he is 65 years old.
Imrana had lodged an FIR against her father-in-law at Charthwal police station, accusing Ali of raping her.
