Impossible to pinpoint cause of farmer's death: Medical Board

Sriganganagar, Nov 8 (UNI) Dr N S Kothari, president of the medical board which conducted the post mortem of dead farmer Chanduram in Ganganagar district, says in such cases it is impossible to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Speaking to UNI,Dr Kothari said the SFL report from Jaipur clearly specifies that Chanduram did not suffer from any kind of disease, he was not an alcoholic and did not suffer a heart attack.

He further said histopathological report says there were no internal injuries, although there were injuries and bruises on his body along with a fracture in the leg.

The Medical Board report has said such injuries cannot be the cause of death.

Dr Kothari said he has handled several cases when a person had died merely of a small injury. He refrained from elaborating on other points of the report, saying only if the state government wants, will it deliberate on it.

Farmers have been alleging that Chanduram died due to injuries sustained in the police lathicharge on farmers in Gharsana on October 16 and demanded a compensation of Rs five lakh.

However, the state government has denied the allegations, saying the autopsy report does not say that he died of injuries.

The farmers in Phase I areas of Indira Gandhi Canal Project have been agitating for irrigation water.
