Hyderabad 159 for 5, TN 256 all out, Karnataka 125 for 5
Margao, Nov 8 (UNI) A patient knock of 72 by B Sandeep and his 41-run partership for the fifth wicket with Sandeep Gaud (not out 16) guided Hyderabad to 159 for 5 in 93 overs against hosts Goa at the close of the play on the opening day of the three-day South Zone Under-15 Polly Umrigar Trophy cricket tournament which got underway here today.
At the Arlem ground in South Goa, Hyderabad, after winning the toss, elected to bat and made a good start though the first two wickets fell with the score at 49 for two. B Sandeep steadied the innings with a fine knock of 72 runs which came off 198 balls and in 251 minutes of stay. At the close of play, the visitors were 159 for 5 in 93 overs.
Sandeep Gaud (not out 16) and Rahul Rannaut (not out 3) were at the crease.
Goa's Ganesh Raj Narvekar, Rigan Pinto and Amok Desai claimed one wicket each.
In the second match played at MCC Ground Margao, Aditya Ganesh's fine knock of 75, which was studded with nine hits to the fence, and an equally fine contribution by Yeshwant, who was unbeaten on 60 (7x4), enabled Tamil Nadu amass 256 all out in 105 overs against Andhra Pradesh.
Mehboob Basha, who claimed 5 wickets conceding 79 runs, was the most successful bowler for Andhra Pradesh.
Andhra Pradesh, in reply, were 1 for no loss in 1 over at the close of the play.
The third match of the day played at Shiroda, also in south Goa, between Karantaka and Kerala was delayed and started only after tea due to a wet wicket.
Kerala, after winning the toss, opted to field. Karnataka managed to score 125 for 5 in 41.4 overs against Kerala at the close of the play with Tarun (52), Rahul (33) and Muneer (11) being the main contributors for Karnataka. Kerala's Ashvin Sharma claimed 3 wickets giving away 37 runs.
