Govt looking into report on PM security lapse
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the state government was examining the Chief Secretary's report on the security lapse during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the state last week.
The state should be more vigilant during VVIPs visit and stringent measures in this regard would be taken, he told a news conference after a cabinet meeting.
Referring to the satellite survey of the land owned by tea estates in the state, Mr Achuthanandan said the survey had been entrusted to the National Remote Sensing Agency of Hyderabad and was progressing.
The government would confiscate whatever land belongs to the state, he said and hoped that the survey would be completed soon.
Asked if the government would rethink releasing the Neyyar water to Tamil Nadu in the backdrop of the Mullaperiyar issue, he said ''the Tamil Nadu government has written a letter to us stating its willingness to have discussions in the presence of the Centre.
Though there was no progress in this, the Tamil Nadu government was acting in a provocative manner.'' The Chief Minister also said the meeting also decided to conduct elections to the college unions, which were stalled earlier.
Senior Government Pleader P Suresh had been made Judge of the Vigilance Tribunal, he announced.
The cabinet also decided to provide Rs 50,000 to the family of Biji, B Ed student of a self-financing college at Thrissur who committed suicide.
