Govt looking into PM security lapse report
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 8: Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the government was examining the Chief Secretary's report into the security lapse during the Prime Minister's visit to the state.
The state should be more vigilant during VVIPs visit and stringent measures in this regard would be taken, he told a news conference after a Cabinet meeting.
Regarding the satellite survey of the land owned by tea estates in the state, Mr Achuthanandan said the survey had been entrusted with the National Remote Sensing Agency of Hyderabad and it was progressing.
The government would confiscate whatever land belongs to the sate, he said and hoped that the survey would be completed soon.
When asked if the government would rethink of releasing the Neyyar water to Tamil Nadu in the backdrop of the Mullaperiyar issue, he said ''the Tamil Nadu government has written a letter to us stating its willingness to have discussions in the presence of the Central government. Though there was no progress in this, the Tamil Nadu government was acting in a provocative manner.'' The Chief Minister also said it was decided at the Cabinet for conducting elections to the college unions, which were stalled earlier.
Senior Government Pleader P Suresh had been made Judge of the Vigilance Tribunal.
The Cabinet also decided to provide Rs 50,000 to the family of Biji, B Ed student of a self-financing college at Thrissur who committed suicide.
