Gems processing training institute at Tiruchirapalli soon
Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, Nov 8 (UNI) Tiruchirapalli will soon have an institution for providing training in gems cutting and processing.
Talking to newspersons here, All India Synthetic Gems Manufacturers and Dealers Association (ASGMDA) Joint Secretary Ashok D Gandhi said the new institute would provide training in processing, cutting and polishing of synthetic gems.
Jointly promoted by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), under the Union Ministry of Commerce and ASGMDA, the institute would start functioning before the and of this year.
Faculty members would be practising experts from the field or those who had acquired Post Graduate (PG) Degree or Diploma in Gemology or Chemical Engineering, he said.
Mr Gandhi said the students would learn the art of sawing the rough slabs (Cubic Zirconia/Zirconium Oxide), processing and cutting them delicately to different shapes and sizes. The Institute would also introduce specialisation in calibration of the stones that is new to the Indian industry.
He said the main drawback of the Indian-made synthetic gems was the inconsistency and non-uniformity of sizes and shapes.
The training equipments, gadgets, laboratory apparatus and workshop equipments had been imported from China and European Countries.
Curriculum and course contents of the institute had been prepared by GJEPC and ASGMDA in consultation with the academic group of the Bharathidasan university and National college that has offered a full-time course in Gemology.
