Foreign students of Mysore varsity to be issued spl ID cards

Mysore, Nov 8 (UNI) With the number of foreign students increasing in various colleges and the University of Mysore, the varsity has come out with a new initiative to give them special identity cards.

Initially, 211 students received the ID cards at a ceremony marking the release of the cards here today, attended by varsity Vice-Chancellor Prof J Shashidhar Prasad and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Rajendra Prasad.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of the international centre of the varisty R Indira said issuing ID cards was in no way related to the arrest of two Pakistani militants in the city recently.

It was conceptualised nearly an year ago and it was an effort to streamline the foreign nationals pursuing education or research here. The ID would help identify students from others, she added.

The police would verify the passports and visa details before issuing the ID cards.
