Farmers intensify agitation, bandh in Khajuwala
Jaipur, Nov 8 (UNI) Farmers, agitating for irrigation water in Ganganagar district, have decided to intensify their stir after the talks with the government officials on the issue, remained inconclusive.
Farmers in Khajuwala town in Bikaner district are observing a bandh today while the agitations are continuing in Chaiyan and Karanpura in Hanumangarh district. The farmers have decided to hold protests in Sangria tomorrow.
The farmers, under the Kisan Mazdoor Vyapari Sangarsh Samiti, have announced that agitations would continue after the meeting in Gharsana on November 11, that over that neither their demands of irrigation water supply from the Indira Gandhi Canal Project nor a compensation package for Chanduram Saran's family have been announced. They allege Chanduram died in the police lathicharge in Gharsana.
Farmers in Anupgarh would join the agitation on November 13 while Srivijaynagar will join the seige on November 15, Suratgarh on November 17 and Raisinghnagar on November 19.
In view of the intensifying agitation, the police arrangement have been tightened in the districts.
The issue of relief package for Chanduram could not be solved as state government refused to agree to the farmers' demand for Rs five lakh, saying Chanduram did not die from injuries sustained during police lathicharge. The post mortem report did not specify the causes of death.
