Delhi writer selected for Punjabi literary award

Chandigarh, Nov 8 (UNI) Dr Karanjit Singh, convenor of the Punjabi language wing of the National Sahitya Akademi has been selected for the 2006 Dr Ravi Memorial award.

Dr Singh, who is based in Delhi, is a renowed critic, poet, folklorist, editor and translator of well known literary works. The award consists of a cash amount of Rs 11,000, a shawl, a memento and a citation.

The award giving function will be held by the Dr Ravi Memorial Trust in collaboration with the Progressive Writers Association at Punjab University here on Novermber 26.

The award was instituted in 1989 after the assassination of Dr Ravinder Singh Ravi, an eminent Marxist critic, academician and teacher. The award is given every year to an eminent literary figure having secular, progressive and objective outlook, who has contributed to Punjabi language, literature and culture.
