Coastal AP gets fresh threat; Central team to tour tomorrow
Hyderabad, Nov 8 (UNI) The coastal region in Andhra Pradesh received fresh rain under the influence of an 'easterly wave' while a Central team is scheduled to visit flood- ravaged state tomorrow as a follow up to Union Home Minister Shivraj V Patil's aerial survey, On arrival, the six-member Central team headed by Vipin Kumar, Joint Secretary, Union Home Ministry, would branch out into three teams and visit worst-hit Prakasam, Guntur and Krishna districts in the coastal region as also Karimnagar district in Telangana region to assess the devastation caused by cyclone 'Ogni.' They would leave for New Delhi on November 11, State Disaster Management Assistant Commissioner Priyadarshini told UNI.
Meanwhile, the weather office forecast that under the influence of an easterly wave, fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls was likely over entire coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next two to three days.
Putting the flood damage at Rs 7083 crore, the state Government had pressed for Central assistance of Rs 6191 crore including Rs 5000 crore for modernisation of Krishna and Godavari deltas, to prevent recurrence of severe flood in the Coastal region causing high damages.
