CM should resign, PM call meeting on sealing: JD(U)

New Delhi, Nov 8: The Janata Dal (United) today charged the Congress leadership at the Centre and Delhi with betraying the people of Delhi and demanded the government to immediately notify the New Master Plan and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to call an all party meeting on the issue of sealing of shops in Delhi.

JD(U) General Secretary Shambhu Srivastava demanded in a statement here that Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit should resign. The Centre, Delhi government and MCD should file an affidavit to the Supreme Court clearly admitting their failure to construct sufficient commercial space in the capital to cater to the current requirements, he demanded.

''They should also admit their failure to take required legal steps to regularise commercial activities according to the needs of the expanding city. Along with this affidavit, they should ask for relief from sealing,'' the JD(U) spokesman said.

alleging that both the Congress leadership at the Centre and Delhi had betrayed the people of Delhi, he said Congress leaders should make public apology of their failure and the Chief Minister should resign to face the people again.

''The city of Delhi is in the grip of renewed fear and simmering dicontent with the resumption of sealing today under the shadow of police and para military forces. The relative calm on the surface should fool nobody. Enforcing rule of law under brute force without tackling underlying causes can be counterproductive and will boomerang,'' the JD(U) spokesman pointed out.

''The city of Delhi belongs to both rich, middle class and poor.

The hypocrisy of Congress has been exposed,'' he asserted.
