Bush's defeat not to alter US policies : Bhattacharjee

Kolkata, Nov 8 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said the defeat of the Republican Party in the US House of Representatives was unlikely to change the country's policy towards Iraq.

'' Though the election has spelt defeat for Mr.Bush and his party, I do not feel that it will change the US policy towards Iraq.

Both the Republican Party and Democratic Party are two sides of the same coin, '' he told reporters at the Writers Building.

Democrats swept Republicans from power in the US House of Representatives and moved to the brink of capturing the Senate, where their final victory could be delayed by a possible recount in Virginia.

Democrats rolled up gains of about 30 seats in the House in yesterday's elections, and picked up four of the six Senate seats they needed for a majority and led in races for the other two.
