BJP lambasts state Govt for failure to tackle flood situation
Vijayawada, Nov 8 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today lambasted Andhra Pradesh government for not taking precautionary measures to tackle the flood situation in three districts of the state.
Addressing a press conference here, State BJP President N Indrasena Reddy said agriculture, irrigation, health and electricity departments had totally failed on the issue.
Mr Reddy alleged that the government had not taken proper care to repair the canals and drains during the last two-and-a-half-years.
Due to this, paddy fields were totally rain-affected.
He pointed out that thousands of acres of crops were submerged.
The aerial survey of Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil along with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy yesterday was only an eye-wash.
Though they conducted an aerial survey of the flood-hit districts, they had not consoled the flood-hit victims nor gave moral courage to them, he charged.
He alleged that despite the state government asking for an assistance of Rs 5,000 crore towards damages during floods in Godavari and the Northern districts this year, the Centre had not given suitable assistance so far.
The flood-victims in Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts were not getting relief from the government, he said and added the state government had announced only 50 per cent subsidy for seeds.
