29 killed, 42 injured in truck accident

Hoshangabad, MP, Nov 8 (UNI) At least 29 people, including women and children, were killed and 42 others injured, when a truck in which they were travelling fell from a bridge at Machhwasa in Piparia tehsil of the district early this morning.

Police sources said the fertilizer laden truck was carrying about 80 labourers and their family members to Raisen district from Gadarwara for paddy harvesting.

The accident occurred when the speeding truck collided with another truck and fell from a bridge 20 ft below at Machhwasa between 0300 and 0400 hrs.

The dead included ten women and nine children. Ten seriously injured had been sent to Bhopal's Hamidia hospital while other injured were being treated at Piparia hospital, police added.

Senior officials have reached the spot.
