Two killed in unseasonal rains, may continue for two days

Ahmedabad, Nov 7 (UNI) Two people were killed when lightning struck them in Hansod village of Ankleshwar after unseasonal rains followed by hailstorm lashed several parts of Gujarat today.

The victims were working in their fields when they were struck by lightning. Unseasonal rains were also reported in Anand district and Ankleshwar town besides Tarapur, Anklav, Khambhat and Borsad.

Agriculture experts in Anand say that crops like chilli, paddy and tobacco which were awaiting harvest, be damaged due to the unseasonal rains.

Meanwhile, the Director incharge of Meteorology department J M Motwal told UNI that the unseasonal rains today in some parts of Gujarat were due to ''western disturbances.'' The precipitation was coming from the westerly Caspian Sea and its effect could be seen from Jammu and Kashmir to Mumbai and parts of Gujarat. This could last for two or three days, he added.
