TRAI to create awareness on CAS implementation
New Delhi, Nov 7: In pursuance of the directions of the Delhi High Court on implementation of the Conditional Access System in the three metros of Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai by December 31, Telecom regulator TRAI has put on its website a detailed factsheet to create consumer awareness about the CAS in all its aspects.
CAS is already being implemented in Chennai.
''As part of the process of implementation and to facilitate enhanced consumer awareness, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has placed on its web site a compilation containing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on CAS and related orders and regulations,'' it said.
The detailed FAQs are available on TRAI's website www.trai-gov.in.
The FAQs include background information about Cable TV operations and answers to specific queries related to the functioning of CAS, CAS Areas and non-CAS areas, Set Top Box (STB), Smart Card, STB Tariff package and benchmarks for quality of service.
Further, it gives a detailed information on Free to Air channels, pay channels and Basic Service Tier Tariff.
''The attempt is to provide answers in a languahe which a layman can understand. The compilation covers questions, answers to which are necessary to clear doubts and provide greater clarity,'' TRAI said today.
The answers to FAQs would greatly help consumers and consumer organisations to avail the benefits intended to be provided to them by various orders of TRAI, it added.
