Kolkata, Nov 7(UNI) Seeking the UPA Government's intervention, All India Minority Forum today demanded annulment of the ''US-sponsored'' death sentence of the deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

A protest meeting, organised by the Forum, said the capital punishment had been awarded at the behest of US Presidentg George Bush and the people would never accept it.

'' George Bush is the topmost terrorist in the world and it is rather he, who should be hanged instead of Saddam Hussein, '' Forum general secretary Mohammad Kamruzzaman said.

Condeming the sentence, awarded by a tribunal in Baghadad, Forum president Idris Ali said the Centre should take a pro-active role to stop this ''staged death penalty''.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board member Raisuddin and Bengal Muslim Council president A E Imran were among other speakers.

An effigy of the US President was burnt at the meeting.
