SIMI denies reports of change in name

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Students for Islamic Movement in India has categorically denied media reports that the organisation might change name to resume its activities.

Mobin Akhtar, who represented SIMI before the tribunal hearing the ban imposed by the Central Government this year, was categorical in the denial.

"It must have been a work of a mischief monger. Banned by the tribunal, the SIMI is seized with putting its head together to prepare a special leave petition before the Supreme Court against the tribunal decision," he said quoting the sources within SIMI.

Requesting anonymity, a former SIMI activist corroborated the denail unambiguously. He blamed the intelligence agencies for negatively portraying SIMI.

"What is left of SIMI since the ban to resume," he asked.
