SC dismisses Reliance's appeal in airport case

New Delhi, Nov 7: The Anil Ambani owned Reliance Airport Developers Ltd today lost the final round of legal battle when the Supreme Court dismissed its appeal against the Delhi High court judgement turning down Reliance's plea challenging the validity of the process adopted by the authorities while alloting the contract for modernisation of airports in New Delhi and Mumbai.

The New Delhi airport was awarded to a consortium led by India's GMR group and German airport operator Fraport, while the Mumbai airport was given to a group led by India's GVK Industries Ltd and the Airports Company of South Africa.

A bench, comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice S H Kapadia, dismissed Reliance's appeal against the Delhi High court judgement upholding the government's decision to allot contracts to GMR and GVK.

On the basis of media reports, the court also took note of an attempt by Reliance to influence the tender process by trying to contact some officials.

The court in a final statement said ''the inevitable conclusion is that appeal deserves dismissal and is hence dismissed.''
