One killed, 47 injured in road accident in HP

Mandi, Nov 7 (UNI) One person was killed and 47 injured, six of them seriously, after an HRTC bus fell on the banks of Beas River in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh last night, police sources today said.

The bus was on its way to Shimla from Palampur when the driver lost control over the vehicle, which veered off the road and fell on the river bank near Victoria Bridge at about 1100 hrs.

Sources said one person, identified as Ashok Kumar, was killed on the spot, while six others were seriously injured, of whom two have been referred to PGI at Chandigarh.

Nineteen others injured in the accident were undergoing treatment at the Regional Hospital here, while 22 passengers were discharged after first aid, they said.

Sources said local people rushed to the scene of accident and helped in pulling out the passengers from the bus minutes after the accident.

District Additional Deputy Commissioner R S Gupta and DSP K C Shandil also reached the site to supervise rescue and relief operations, they said.

Sources said HRTC Divisional Manager has ordered an inquiry to ascertain the cause of the accident.

All the injured people have been identified, while the body of the person killed in the accident has been handed over to his relatives after post mortem, sources added.
