Mumbai, Nov 7: With a firm resolve to unitedly fight terror, British Foreign Minister Margaret Beckett called on Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy at Mantralaya here today.

Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, Ms Beckett said her deliberations with Mr Deshmukh and Mr Roy centered around shared concerns like the recent experiences of dealing with terrorism, especially in view of the fact that the July Mumbai train blasts and the London underground attacks earlier, were strikingly similar.

''The Metropolitan police have already sent a team here and were hugely impressed by what they found. Chief Superintendent Harrison will be coming tomorrow, at Commissioner Roy's invitation, to attend a seminar on lessons learnt in the wake of the Mumbai attacks,'' Ms Beckett said.

''We have agreed to share best practice and planning methods for the forthcoming Delhi 2010 commonwealth games and the London 2012 Olympics. We will look at how we can share ideas and the best practice on protecting critical national infrastructure,'' she added.

Mr Deshmukh said both India and Britain have decided to set up a mechanism to jointly fight terror and Maharashtra would like to share the technology and experience of countering terrorism with Britain.

Terrorists imagined that these atrocities would create a climate of fear, and drive communities apart and bring normal life to a halt, the British Foreign Minister noted.

''But, people of great cities like Mumbai and London responded to the horror with bravery, with compassion and tolerance. People were shocked and scared, but they did not turn on one another. They supported each other, they got back on to the trains and the underground and refused to be cowed down,'' she observed.
