Irish-Spaniard duo joint winners in Himalayan stage race

New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Irish-Spaniard duo of Martin Rea and Albert Majos Cullel emerged as joint winner in the just-concluded 16th International Himalayan Run and Trek event.

Adventurers from countries including USA, UK, Germany, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and Singapore competed in the event at Darjeeling but in the end, it was the Rea-Cullel duo who finished joint winners in the Himalayan 100 mile stage race, clocking 15 hours 32 minutes and won the Sant Nagpal Baba Memorial Gold Award.

Javier Gomez (17hr 25 min) of Spain finished second, followed by Mark Roberts of UK who took 17 hours and 57 minutes.

Sarah Booth (21 hrs 52 min) of UK won the eves' race, followed by Karen Ann Silk (26hr 59 min) of New Zealand and Sarah Smart (27hrs 56 min) of UK.

The oldest participant in the October 29-November 3 race was 68-year-old Elizabeth Burston of UK.

Deputy Inspector General of SSB GS Saina gave away the prizes.
