CRPF headquarter,Army convoy attacked, SPO, 2 ultras killed in J

Srinagar, Nov 7 (UNI) Militants attacked headquarters of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and an Army convoy and killed two people a Special including Police Officer (SPO), while security forces gunned down two ultras in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

Militants shot dead one Javed Ahmad Bhat at Anantnag today. They said militants fired a rifle grenade from an unknown place towards the CRPF company headquarters set up in Shiraz cinema in the down town city at 1645 hours today.

The grenade exploded in the camp compound causing injuries to two CRPF personnel. The injured were hospitalised, they said. A CRPF spokesman said two jawans received minor injuries.

A resident told UNI that blast was followed by firing by the security forces deployed in the area. However, no one was injured in the firing.

The area was cordoned off and traffic on the Srinagar- Hazratbal shrine road was suspended for about an hour.

Militants made about dozens attacks on the camp since it was set up in early nineties.

Sources said militants threw a hand grenade towards an Army convoy at Tangmarg this afternoon, causing injuries to two soldiers.

The convoy was on way to Gulmarg from Kunzer, they said, adding militants managed to escape after the attack.

They said security forces and police in a joint operation killed a militant in an encounter at Kupwara in north Kashmir this morning.

The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants, they said, adding one AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

They said militants entered the house of police constable Abdul Rashid Mir at Chak-e-Surmarg, Handwara in the frontier district of Kupwara late last night and shot him.

Mir, posted at Chugal Handwara, was on leave.

Militants shot at and critically wounded labourer Mohammad Shafi Choppan at Sopore in this district last night.

Choppan was hospitalised, the sources said.

A Jammu report said Doda senior Superintendent of Police Manohar Singh said HUM militant Shabir Ahmad, alias Abu Abrar, resident of Banitanta in Gandoh was killed by the troops of 26 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Task Force (STF).

The militant was a Special Police Officer (SPO) initially. He had taken one AK-Rifle, three magazines, and a wireless set from Thathri Police Station on April 20, 2006 and joined the militant outfit.
