Asom Governor for professionalism in terror fight
Guwhati, Nov 7: Asom Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajoy Singh today stressed the need for a ''professional approach'' to fight the menace of terrorism.
Inaugurating a seminar on ''Terrorism, Emerging Trends and need for Strategies'' organised by the Asom police here, Mr Singh asked men in uniform to be serious in dealing with terrorism. ''If we are really serious terrorism cannot survive,'' he said.
The Governor called for a two-pronged approach on part of the security agencies to curb terrorist activities. First equipping themselves with the latest expertise in the field and overhauling the process of gathering and sharing intelligence.
He also urged the need for creating awareness about terrorism among the masses.
Earlier Additional Director General of Police-CID, S P Ram dwelt on terrorism and insurgency in the country and stressed the need for a joint strategy to fight the menace.
The seminar was attended among others by Additional Secretary(RAW), B Raman, former-DGP, BSF Uttar Pradesh and Asom Prakash Singh, senior officials from the BSF, CRPF, SSB, National Security Guard and the Intelligence Bureau.
Senior police officials from West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Maharashtra and Gujarat were also participating in the seminar.
