Mumbai, Nov 7 (UNI) Two Unani practitioners were arrested late last night in connection with Malegaon blasts case taking the total number of arrests in this case to five so far.

Dr Salman Farsi Abdul Latif Aimi (35) was arrested from Govandi while Dr Farogh Anwar Iqbal Ahmed Magdumi (33) was arrested from Malegaon. The duo was produced before MCOCA court judge Mrudula Bhatkar today who remanded them in ATS custody till November 21.

Earlier, the ATS had arrested three persons in connection with the blasts and booked them under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). All of them will remain in the custody of ATS till November 16.

While producing Salman Farsi Abdul Latif Aimi and Farogh Anwar Iqbal Ahmed Magdumi before the MCOCA court today, the ATS prayed for a 15-day remand which was granted.

When the judge asked whether they had any complaints, Salman Aimi alleged that he was beaten up by the police yesterday and that his family has not been informed about his arrest.

However, the prosecution told the court that Aimi's wife, residing in Malegaon, had been informed about her husband's arrest last evening itself.

Regarding his allegation that he was beaten up by the police, the prosecution placed Aimi's medical report before the court. When the judge asked Aimi whether he wanted to undergo a further medical check-up, he replied in the negative.

On a request by Aimi, the court permitted him to have home-made food while in custody. His counsel too would be allowed to meet him for ten minutes daily subject to his availibility.

The prosecution told the court that the two Unani practitioners had been arrested on the basis of the revealations made during their interrogation by the three suspects arrested earlier.

Salman Aimi was practising Unani in Gowani while Farogh was practising in Malegaon. The two often held meetings with other co-conspirators for the purpose of carrying on their unlawful activities, the prosecution told the court while urging for their remand.

On September 8 this year, three blasts had occurred in and around a mosque at Malegaon in Nasik district which had left 25 dead besides injuring over 240.
