Union Govt proposes to open flying club at Khow Airport, Tripura
Agartala, Nov 6 (UNI) The centre has directed the Tripura government to open a Flying Club at the abandoned Khowai Airport in the west district.
Chief Minister Manik Sarkar here today said a letter from New Delhi was sent to the state government on Saturday, mentioning the Aviation Ministry's willingness to open a Flying Club at the Khowai Airport.
Mr Sarkar informed that ''a large number of houses have been constructed near the Airport. So it was impossible to operate any flights through this Airfield.'' The State government had earlier planned to construct a hospital or marketing complex near the abandoned airport and sought permission from the Airport Authorities in this regard. However, the project could not take off.
''Once Flying Club starts, pilots can be trained and the entire North Eastern state will benefit," he added.
