SC adjourns petition for CBI inquiry in Prof Sabharwal murder case
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) The Supreme Court today adjourned by three weeks, the petition filed by Himanshu Sabharwal seeking a CBI inquiry into the murder of his father, Professor H S Sabharwal in August by some student leaders in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.
Senior Counsel Arun Jaitley, appearing for the state of MP, told the Bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and Lokeshwar Singh Panta that the state police was conducting free and fair investigation into the case and there was no need for a CBI inquiry.
The state CID earlier filed its status report in the case in a sealed cover before the Court.
After perusing the report, the court also granted time to the petitioner to file a rejoinder in the case.
It may be noted here that Professor Sabharwal was badly thrashed for cancelling the college Union elections and had died of a cardiac arrest due to the shock and humiliation he had to face at the hands of some ABVP leaders.
ABVP is the student wing of BJP, the ruling party in Madhya Pradesh.
State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan had described the alleged murder of Professor Sabharwal as an accidental death.
State ABVP leaders Rajiv Ranjan Akela and Vimal Tomar are already in jail for their alleged involvement in the murder.
The petitioner, however, has expressed total lack of faith in the state administration as eye witnesses were being intimidated and the entire state machinery was involved in operation 'cover up' to shield the culprit, who are the members of the ruling party in the state.
