MCD, police to decide on how to carry out sealing: Sheila Dikshit
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) Caught between the Supreme Court's no- nonsense sealing order and the compulsions of capital politics, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today sought an escape-route out of the ticklish situation via the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the law enforcing agencies.
''The MCD and the police will decide on how to carry out the orders keeping in mind the existing law and order situation in the capital,'' Ms Dikshit told reporters after an almost two-hour meeting of the Group of Ministers (GOM).
The meeting on the issue -- which has brought to fore the failure of the powers-that-be to plan the Capital's future-- was chaired by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and attended by Union Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy, MOS for Urban Development Ajay Maken, Union Law Minister H R Bhardwaj, Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi and Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul.
The GoM on sealing today said the Supreme Court order was ''paramount and binding'' and the government had no option but to implement the order-- which is aimed at rationalising Delhi's misinterpreted land use policies.
The Supreme Court today held that the sealing in the national capital will continue and told the government that ''traders or anybody else cannot hold the city to ransom''.
A Division Bench comprising Chief justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice C K Thakkar reminded the government of its constitutional obligations under Article 141 and 144 which say that all authorities in the country will act in compliance with the orders and directions of the Supreme Court.
The apex court also directed the authorities concerned to provide full cooperation to the Supreme Court-appointed Monitoring Committee to ensure the compliance of the orders of the apex court.
