UP: Mulayam rejects demand of President's rule

Lucknow, Nov 5: Brushing aside the opposition demand of President's rule in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today claimed that the urban local bodies elections were held impartially.

''As the BJP-Congress-BSP have lost their mass base and have no ideologies, they are now blaming the ruling party as a face saving measure,''he said, In a press conference here, Mr Yadav, expressing satisfaction on the role of the State Election Commission (SEC) on the conduct of the elections, said they have done a good job.

''In such elections sporadic incidents cannot be avoided but the hue and cry created by the opposition is an attempt to cover up their frustration'', he added.

Mr Yadav also questioned why the opposition is demanding assembly elections under President's rule in UP. ''Should there be a common trend of holding assembly polls under President's rule in all states?'' he pointed out.

He also admitted that his party had objected to the SEC directive for a repoll in booths where polling was over 85 per cent.'' How can one raise objection, if all the people in the voter list casts their votes'', he asked adding what will SEC do if during repolling also the percentage was over 85 per cent.

Commenting on the continunation of the assembly session for the last three months, he said opposition must be happy to attend the session as they have enough agenda to raise in the house.'' If the opposition wants and they do not have any issues then we will be happy to conclude the session'', he said.
