Two-day international symposium on HIV and drug abuse
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 4 (UNI) A two-day International Symposium to discuss the medical consequences of drug abuse with special reference to AIDS/HIV and other infections in India will be held here on November 6 and 7.
The symposium, organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), along with the International American University (IAU) in St Lucia, West Indies and the Universal Empire Group, pioneers in global medical education, will be attended by medical experts and renowned scientists from around the globe, RBCB Director K Radhakrishna Pillai and IAU president Manmadhan Nair told reporters here yesterday.
The conference aimed at propagating prevention strategies against HIV infection and to create awareness among community doctors, medical students, research investigators and health care workers in India and around the globe, they said.
The major cause of HIV/AIDS infection in the country, affecting five million people, was drug abuse or unprotected sexual interaction, they said.
