Sriperumbudur, no more painful memory for Sonia
Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, Nov 4 (UNI) For AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Sriperumbudur had always brought painful memories as it was in this once non-descript town that her husband, late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a suicide bomber 15 years back.
But this time around, she had more reasons to feel happy as the town had developed into a major industrial hub with various telecom, IT and automobile companies setting up their base here, fulfilling the dream of her late husband.
''Sriperumbudur always has painful memories for me. But this time I have more reasons to feel happy'', she said at the inaugural function of Flextronics Industrial Park, one of the world's leading electronics manufacturing services provider.
''Setting up of this Industrial park in Sriperumbudur was one of the fitting tributes to the late Rajiv Gandhi, who ushered the IT and Telecom revolution in the country after facing considerable scepticism and bitter opposition'', Ms Gandhi said.
