Senior police officer escaped bid on life, militant killed in J
Srinagar, Nov 4 (UNI) Militants made an abortive bid on the life of a senior police officer while security forces killed a militant during an encounter in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight, an official spokesman said today.
He said militants resorted to indiscriminate firing at Pinglish near Tral, about 35 km from here in south Kashmir last evening when Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pulwama passing through the area.
The security guards of SSP also returned the fire and the exchange continued for about ten minutes.
The officer, however, escaped unhurt in the incident but his vehicle was damaged.
Later, Border Security Force (BSF) conducted search operation in the entire area. However, militants had managed to escape, he said.
Security forces killed a militant during an ecnounter at Sangiote, sector Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu region last night.
The encounter was ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants with automatic weapons, he said, adding that two AK assault rifles, two magazines and 66 rounds were seized from the encounter site.
House of Qazi Mohammad Majeed, where the militant was hiding, was also damaged in the encounter, the spokesman said.
Police noticed one Mohammad Din in injured condition at Jamola bridge in Rajouri district last evening and was hospitalised.
Din was abducted by the militants from his Hubbi Kandi residence during the intervening night of October 31 and November 1, he said.
Security forces seized and AK rifle with 28 rounds in the Gadyog forest in Kandi area of Rajouri district during a search operations last evening.
