Railways women retain Handball title
Lucknow, Nov 4 (UNI) Railways women's team retained the title of the Federation Cup Handball Championship beating Chhattisgarh 30-15, while Maharashtra clinched the third place at the K D Singh Babu Stadium.
Chhattisgarh finished last.
The third place of the women's group went to Maharashtra by virtue of better goal average over Uttar Pradesh.
Both teams had two points each in their match today.
In the men's group, the final encounter will be played between CISF and CRPF tomorrow and in the third place match held today, Madhya Pradesh beat hosts UP in a well contested encounter 26-20.
In the women's final, Railways girls dominated the proceedings throughout the stipulated time against Chhattisgarh and won 30-15.
They were leading 17-10 at half time. Malti (12) and Aniita (11) were the main scorers for the winning team.
Meanwhile in the West Zone Handball Championship, being played at the same venue simultaneously, Chhattisgarh women's team showed their might in the league matches, winning both games of the day.
In contrast, their male counterparts tasted defeat at the hands of the host's team 25-09.
