Prez, PM greet nation on Guru Nanak Jayanti
New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today greeted the people on the occasion of the 537th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion.
In separate messages, the leaders urged fellow citizens to follow Guru Nanak's preachings of equality, compassion and truth for achieving peace and harmony.
''As we celebrate Guru Nanak Devji's birthday, let us deeply understand his message of meditation and remembering God, honestly earning through ones physical and mental efforts while accepting God's gifts and blessings and to share within society,'' Dr Kalam said.
Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat said the teachings of Guru Nanak are ''a timeless beacon to all humanity especially in the times of conflict, violence and moral turpitude''.
''Guru Nanak's profound message of leading an honest, truthful and virtuous life continues to guide and inspire humanity,'' Dr Singh said in his message.
Guru Nanak Jayanti will be celebrated across the country tomorrow.
