Police personnel involved in extortion have to face law
Srinagar, Nov 4 (UNI) Concerned over the reports that police personnel in the valley were indulging in extortion, a senior police officer said those involved will not escape the long arm of the law.
No such activity by any police personnel will be tolerated, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir range, S M Sahai warned.
He said the black sheep in the force will have to face the law.
Taking serious note of the incidents of extortion as reported by the media, Mr Sahai has asked the senior police officials to deal strictly with the ant cops.
He said stern action has already been intiated against the officials involved in an extortion incident at Ashmuqam in south Kashmir district of Anantnag.
The guilty will not be spared, he assured and said nobody is above the law.
Meanwhile, police have arrested a constable for demanding and accepting money from a youth at Hazratbal.
According to reports, a youth was in Hazratbal alongwith his girlfriend when a police constable arrested him. However, the cop demanded Rs 5,000 for releasing them.
Reports said the youth paid the cop Rs 4,000 but reported the matter to a senior police officer.
The cop was arrested and action has been initiated against him, it said.
