PIL facility not properly utilised: Speaker

Hyderabad, Nov 4 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today said the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was not being utilised with the objective with which it was introduced in the judicial system of the country.

Addressing the gathering here at the concluding function of the Andhra Pradesh High Court Golden Jubilee celebrations, Mr Chatterjee said the issue should be dealt with seriously as to make sure the PIL serve the actual purpose for which it was introduced.

Expressing confidence that the Women's Reservation Bill will come into effect soon, he said serious efforts were on at various levels to evolve a consensus on the draft Bill at the national level.

Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said the government would solve the land acquisition issue on mutual consensus with the displaced people in the state.

Dr Reddy said the state government had sanctioned Rs ten crore to construct new courts and Rs four crore to computerise the lower courts in the state.

The stipend for the advocates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes had been increased from Rs 2000 to Rs 3000 and the government would support them in all aspects in future, he added.
