Mulayam accuses Centre for neglecting farmers, minorities

Jhansi, Nov 4 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav alleged that due to the indifferent attitude of the Centre, farmers and minorities have been overlooked.

Addressing a gathering here, the Samajwadi Party supremo said ''Muslim community has sacrificed a lot for India and made efforts to enhance country's image in the sectors of handicrafts, farming and technology of modern weapons.'' The CM lambasted those politicians, who only believe in raising slogans and making false promises to people.

He said opposition has united against his government and he is concerned about the development of UP.

The former defence minister alleged ''in order to serve their vested interests, certain elements are spreading rumours about the SP-led UP government.'' Meanwhile, the CM directed the Chief Secretary to impress upon the District Magistrates that they would be held directly responsible if any person dies due to starvation in their respective areas.

Reacting to the criticism of the 'Kanya Vidhya Dhan Yojna' and unemployment allowance, Mr Yadav added ''former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not reply to the letter in regard to these two schemes, while Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh merely acknowledged the receipt of his letter on the subject.'' He said 10 lakh youth would get employment in next few months in the public as well as the private sectors.

He stated when SP came to power, it was our commitment that 'Kapda Roti sasti ho, Dawa Padhai mufti ho'.

With the inspiration of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia's 'Sapt Kranti', the state government has left no stone unturned to fulfill his dream and today UP is developing into an 'Uttam Pradesh'.

Reffering to the achievements of his government, he maintained UP stands first in sugar production, while Rs 18,000 crore has been paid to cane farmers.
