Mob assaults 4 policemen, including SI

Allahabad, Nov 4 (UNI) An irate mob today assaulted four policemen including a Sub-inspector (SI) in Jagdishpur village under Lalapur police station area here to protest the arrest of a local person.

According to reports, the supporters of Samajwadi Party and BJP MLAs had clashed yesterday on some issue. SP MLA Vijama Yadav had lodged FIR in Lalapur police station against a BJP supporter.

When cops led by an SI went to the village to arrest the named person, locals turned violent and beat up the police team with lathis and batons, in which four jawans received injuries.

The injured cops have been admitted to Jasara primary health centre. Later, senior cops visited the area and deployed a heavy police contingent in the village.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Phoolpur Market, about 30 kms from here, following the recovery of an unidentified body. Locals laid seize to the nearby road in protest for a few hrs demanding the arrest of culprits.

Yesterday, an irate mob had 'gheraoed' Phoolpur police station and pelted stones to protest the attack on a BJP candidate in nagar panchayat poll.

Heavy police force had already been deployed in Phoolpur area.
